First impressions count, so don’t blow your chance of scoring the dream job with the wrong attire. Keep it smart – but not too safe
Toeing the line
The familiar mantra from employment agencies when it comes to dressing for a job interview is: when in doubt, christian louboutin shoes conservatively. It’s good advice but with so many workplaces leaning towards the casual side nowadays, being overdressed to meet the boss can make you look and feel like an over-stuffed turkey. Research the company’s christian shoes code first and don’t be afraid to ask upfront about what’s acceptable and what’s not. Then turn it up a notch.
The corporate sphere
Dressing for the corporate environment doesn’t have to mean wearing a shapeless grey affair that blends into the office carpet. Smart suiting can be slim-cut and sexy. A plain, dark-coloured jacket that matches the skirt or trousers works best. Team with medium-height heels and opaque tights, and add colour with a bold bag. Strandbags has eye-catching orange satchels for $130. There’s
no need to blow your first month’s pay cheque on a suit; reasonably priced options are available. Cue has sleek one-button wool jackets with matching pants and skirts, while Jacqui E has tight-fitting jackets ($199) with straight trousers ($90).
Depending on just how corporate your potential job is, a blouse can look just as smart as a plain cotton shirt. Melanie Cutfield has a lovely white chiffon blouse with a black pussy bow ($275), and Arthur Galan stocks voluminous brown printed blouses for $298. If shirting is more your style, choose one with elegant three-quarter sleeves, such as Jacqui E’s subtly striped versions for $80.
The creative world
Christian louboutin shoes codes are fairly loose in the marketing and media industries, so be sure to demonstrate a bit of fashion know-how. From A-lines to shirt dresses, a good tailored frock (no girlie smocks or minis, christian louboutin, mind) paired with high heels is ideal. Open-toed shoes are often considered a no-no in job interviews but if the workplace is on the fashionable side, funky peep-toe heels add drama to daywear. For bags, opt for a large leather tote with a high-gloss finish. Try Country Road’s black patent-leather Michela bag ($199).
Leona Edmiston’s winter collection contains gorgeous low-key, slightly flared A-line dresses in vivid violets and blues for about $365. Alternatively, if you’re convinced that a pattern won’t dazzle the interviewer, go floral. Again, Edmiston comes up trumps with knee-length floral shifts for $465.
Hospitality, service and trades
Cleanliness really is next to godliness here. Keep make-up and jewellery to a minimum and polish shoes to the maximum. More often that not, employees in hospitality and trades wear uniforms. If you know in advance that the service job requires the penguin get-up, show that you can sport the black-and-white look with pizazz. A fitted blazer, white shirt and man-style trousers are the go. Sportsgirl has blazers for $150 and slouchy palazzo pants for $90.
As for the shirt, make sure it’s cotton and crisp.
Mr Rose – whose shirts are custom-made to fit bust sizes in A/B, B/C and C/D cups – has classic styles in Italian cotton with oversized French cuffs for $298.
Heels are usually critical for job interviews. Hospitality and trade workers, however, often wear flatties. Demonstrate that you can do flats with style and choose ones with quirky details. Sachi’s bejewelled Desmona ballet flats will add sparkle to shirt-and-trouser ensembles.
Must-haves
A sleek, streamlined suit that’s comfortable and sexy or a well-cut tailored dress. Polished shoes and a statement bag.
Must avoid
Oversized jewellery and cleavage-flashing tops.
christian louboutin shoes Cherish
Do you long to be glamorous? Do you ache to emulate the screen icons of the Forties and Fifties?
Then take heart – in an exclusive extract from her new book, SANDRA DEEBLE shows you how
GLAMOUR IS a state of mind. You can treat it as an accessory and adopt it when the mood takes you.
I wore a little black louboutin while writing my book and, come early evening, my desk was often graced with a glass of champagne.
Yet true glamour goes deeper. It has connotations of the Hollywood screen goddess era, when they had no doubt about how to be glamorous. They simply were glamorous. Glamour has always been with us, yet there has never been a greater need to celebrate it. We need to offset the stresses of modern life with the fizz of frivolous fun. Find glamour that fits with who you are and how you live. The key to unlocking your inner voluptuousness is simple: confidence. Repeat after me: I am gorgeous. I glow. I have glamour.

GLAMOUR TYPES
Glamour is accessible to all. Here are glamorous women we can admire and whose "look" we can capture.
STAR WITH HOURGLASS FIGURE
Who: Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth (top left).
How: Work on your eyebrows. Arch them as far as they will go. Wear dresses of slinky mermaid proportions.
Accentuate your hips. Wear belts.
PLATINUM BLONDE GODDESS
Who: Marilyn Monroe (left), Scarlett Johansson, How: Turn blonde.
Recline on a chaise longue. Adopt a gravelly or breathy voice.
SULTRY SIREN
Who: Marlene Dietrich, Uma Thurman (top left), Sophia Loren (right).
How: Smudge taupe shadow on your lids to get the smoky-eyed look.
Perfect a come-hither look.
SOPHISTICATED
Who: Audrey Hepburn (right), Grace Kelly (top left).
How: Wear oversized sunglasses (essential), pearls, black polo-neck sweater, little black dress, long gloves, and a headscarf.
THE CAPSULE WARDROBE
Get it right and it saves time, money and energy spent wondering what to wear. Grab bin bags, set aside a half day and ask a friend to help. Start with a colour you can work with as a basis – black, navy or brown. Ask these questions about each item: Does it fit?
Is it flattering? What does it go with?
What you’re aiming for is your own spin on the following: Three skirts (short, knee, long) Three pairs of trousers (day, evening and jeans) Four pairs of shoes (day, evening, flats and boots) One jacket (goes with one skirt to make a suit) Shirts that go with all the above One little black christian louboutin shoes Trench coat or mac Stunningly elegant winter coat, classic rather than fashion item No more than five items you love and still wear but that don’t necessarily go with anything else Love what’s in your wardrobe and wear everything in it. Then wait for the compliments.
Storage hints
Hang clothes according to weight
Store bias-cut clothes in boxes with tissue paper. If they hang for years they go skew-whiff Keep shoes in clear boxes Sole mates All you need is quality – shoes that are well made and fit well. Pamper them, polish them and remember that glamour is well heeled, so you need a good mender – and the following shoes: One pair of loafers or flat shoes One pair of court or low-heeled shoes One pair of evening shoes One pair of knee-length boots Bag lady Glamour stems from simplicity: reduce confusion and clutter in life. You really can live well with three bags.
The Work Bag – big but not too big.
Neutral rather than matching. Leather totes are great workhorses.
The Weekend Bag – softer materials: canvas, linen, silk, raffia. When you pick up this bag to go out you’ll be so happy to leave your weekday satchel behind.
The Out on the Town Bag – did I really say one of these? Vintage bags are wonderful to collect and use.
Whatever you choose, ask yourself if it will take phone, credit card, keys and cash. Size matters. Think about your size and height. Graceful is best. Buy a smaller bag than you think you’ll need and carry the bare minimum
BEAUTY
Glamour owes a lot to wellbeing.
Feel splendid and you will exude The Glow.
Pampering: Cherish yourself. Have facials massages, manicures and pedicures. Have your eyebrows done professionally.
Perfume: Glamour is always fragrant. Find your own individual scent, something natural that suits you and enhances your own true spirit.
Make-up: Here’s what you need for a capsule make-up bag: Two foundations, full on for winter, light for summer Two lipsticks, day and night One lip pencil One blusher One mascara One eye and brow pencil
DEPORTMENT
If you’re lucky, you’ll have giraffe ancestors. But if you have a short neck, do not despair. A rod-like back and a Darcey Bussell stance is achievable. Five top activities for balletdancer deportment:
Alexander technique: Excellent for public speaking and helping you gain poise Pilates: Tones and gets that stomach squashed flat Yoga: Choose a type that suits you Dancing: Salsa, ceroc, jitterbug, tango, tap, ballet Walking: You could join the Ramblers’ Association. Or not
EVERYDAY GLAMOUR AT WORK
Forget power dressing. We’re talking style, femininity, and oozing authority and charm, not eyelash fluttering. If you feel fabulous at work, everything you want will flow to you: money, interesting projects, the works. Here’s how to do it.
Be smart, very smart – herringbone linen dresses and kitten heels in summer, for instance Quality – the best you can afford, because you’ll get more wear out of work clothes than anything else Neutral tones – forego black every so often Trousers (Armani-style if not Armani) Prada-style sport shoes Drink water to stop feeling jaded Eat fruit and seeds for energy – glamour doesn’t flag Take a brisk walk at lunchtime, whatever the weather
AT HOME
Work from home in your pyjamas by all means but ensure they are in jewel colours and made of silk, or in white or cream linen. If you feel chilly, throw on an organza or chiffon wrap (velvet and cashmere in winter) or a beaded cardigan.
Don’t: Wear clothes more suited to the gym Have pot pourri in bowls Loaf around without make-up Have bad hair days or wear a scrunchie Leave washing-up in the sink Do: Watch old films in the afternoon Wear a tiara Have blousy blooms all over the place Light candles Observe the cocktail hour (from six onwards)
GLAMOROUS HOLIDAYS
Hip places change, according to whims of fashion, but these will be forever glamorous: French Riviera: Racy, dangerous, seductive Havana: Decaying elegance, slightly edgy glamour Miami: Pink hotels, pink drinks, what more can you ask?
Rome: Vespas, espresso – heaven Trans-Siberian Express, or any other long-distance train journey San Francisco: Notting Hill with cable cars Zanzibar: It just sounds glam North Island, christian louboutin, Seychelles: Location for Tracy Island in Thunderbirds. Lady Penelope will always have glamour
PACK SMART FOR THE BEACH
Big sunglasses Cardigan – 1950s style with brooch One or two crinkly dresses Linen drawstring pyjama bottoms Smart trousers, linen or cotton Linen shirts One white T-shirt or sleeveless top for every day you’re away Kaftan and turban for that Agatha Christie murder look Sarong Birkenstocks Minimal beach-friendly jewellery Strappy sunchristian louboutin shoes Elegant but not-too-high shoes Swimming costume/bikini Floppy hat Beach bag, smaller evening bag Pashmina/wrap
christian louboutin shoes outfits
I HAVE few occasions to go out on the town, but when I do I face a shoe dilemma. I am a big woman and my chunky legs and size 8 feet are definitely not suited to spindly stilettos or kitten heels. I prefer flat shoes but I need something a bit dressy for special occasions to go with a dress. Im no Imelda Marcos and my shoe collection is very small: a brown pair of those flat suede shoes, with a moulded sole and a tag behind the ankle, that everyone was wearing in 1999; a new pair of lovely, soft, brown leather boots that look very smart; a tatty old pair of black Birkenstock open sandals; and a brown pair of almond-toed Docs! Any suggestions on how I could complement this rather brown selection for evening wear?
 ,christian louboutin;Kate, London
My absolute saving grace in the posh shoe department is LK Bennett; no one else makes such graceful but flat shoes. The rub is that they’re very expensive. However, you can get some real bargains in the sale, which started on 18 December but is still on. (Now that you know, believe me, you will mark the LK Bennett sale times in your diary.)
Last year, my husband – in a desperate attempt to get me into ladylike shoes – bought me a gorgeous pair of heeled plum-coloured slingbacks. The great thing about these is that even though they’re not that high, they look high, if you know what I mean. And I bought myself a pair of absolutely flat, black-suede pointy pumps that look for all the world as if they would have a heel but don’t. There are various branches around London (ring 020 7491 3005 to find out your nearest), so go and have a look for yourself. The other place to look is Office which also has dressy flat shoes and again the sale is on now; inquiries: 020 7566 3070.
I’ve a real problem this year finding any black stockings thicker than 15 denier. I’m unable to wear tights and hold-ups always seem to fall down. I’m looking for opaque black stockings that are at least 40 denier. Are there any stores or mail-order companies that stock them?
PF, Brighton
John Lewis (inqs: 020 7629 7711; your nearest branch is the Bluewater one – 01322 624123 and they can post them to you) sell what you’re looking for: 50 denier opaque stockings by Levante. They come in black, brown, grey and navy sizes SML, pounds 2.95. Aristoc (01773 525520) also does something called the Cotswold 60 Denier Seam Free Stocking, pounds 3.50, but that only comes in grey, nude or tan, just in case you ever fancy some different colours.
I have a black silk christian louboutin shoes from Whistles which, after the second wear (sweaty night), got stained with my deodorant and, presumably, sweat. My drycleaners say theres nothing they can do. Can you help?
Kunbi, New York (formerly London)
Ooh, I do like having transatlantic readers. Yes, I can help. There are a few things you can do, although as your christian shoes is silk and so probably delicate and precious, I would urge you to do a boring patch test on a bit of the hem or somewhere else unobtrusive. You’re right to suggest it could be your deodorant; so many stains that people think are sweat are actually either the anti-perspirant or it’s helped to fix the sweat stain to the clothing.
Sweat comes from our apocrine glands and contains lipids, ammonium compounds, reducing sugars and salts and some of the components of deodor ants are aluminium salts. These can fix the lipids to the fabric surface, not only making the stain more difficult to remove but yellowing it. Before washing, I spray sweat stains with a solution of vinegar and water or vodka and water (a trick Madonna also uses for her after-show outfits, which I fancy she nicked from this column, as I found it out by sheer experimentation).
This may not help you as your christian louboutin shoes (due to a lining or some such) may not be washable. In which case, see if you can very gently sponge the area with the vinegar or vodka water and see how you get on. I once had a reader who wrote in to recommend citric acid. I must stress I’ve never tried it but if anyone would like to give it a go and let me know (on your own heads be it, mind), then I’d love to have some feedback. You can get citric acid in chemists and photographic shops (it’s used in the developing process) or you can get it from Rayco (who sell it for photographic purposes only and can’t give any advice on its use as a stain remover); tel: 01226 744594; it’s pounds 2 for 100g, plus pp.
I was given a wonderful jumper for Christmas but it says ‘machine-wash’. Can I really machine-wash woollens?
Alison, Norfolk
I’ve included this letter because I’m not sure I made it clear last week when replying to Mark’s letter (’can I machine-wash my dry-clean-only trousers’; in his case the answer was no, as his trousers contained viscose, which is prone to shrinkage) that I do machine-wash certain dry-clean-only items but I always put them on a hand-wash cycle no higher than 40 degrees. But, Alison, if your jumper says you can machine-wash it, then follow the instructions!

louboutin woman
WHEN is a size 16 not a size 16? Well, frustratingly, as we show in our book The Body Shape Bible, almost ALWAYS.
That’s why our latest mission is to get women to christian louboutin shoes for their shape and not get hung up about their christian louboutin shoes size.
To prove our point, we dressed 100 women, louboutin shoes, who all said they were a size 16, in the same white shift dress.
We found it didn’t fit any of them in the same way. In fact, it was a perfect fit on just one of our ladies.
That’s why shopping is so maddening. Retailers don’t take into account that a woman might be a size 16 because of the size of her boobs, her bum or her thighs.
But you can look great whatever your shape or size. The trick is using clothes cleverly to slim down your bulky bits and bulk up your skinny areas.
If you’re a lusty, busty lady with a slimmer bottom half, wide-leg trousers and a wide scoop-neck top will put you in proportion.
Fitted jackets, coats and cardigans that button under the bust will all give your chest support.
Nigella Lawson, below, knows that figure-hugging clothes on her top half will accentuate her sexy curves. She’s a great fan of the fitted cardi. Principles have a well-priced and well-cut version.
Or, if you have a big bum and small boobs, puffed sleeves and an eye-catching jacket will will keep all the attention up top. Wide, flat-fronted trousers and an A-line skirt that skims rather than clings will balance out your bottom half.
Shakira and Katie Holmes both have heavier lower halves but have learnt to christian louboutin shoes to perfection.
If you’ve not a lot of shape, the most important factor is to create a waist. Look for jackets with a tie waist or wrap dresses that you can tie high up under the bust.
Jelly bellies are overwhelmingly the most hated part of our bodies but flat-fronted trousers and tops that are ruched over the middle can hide them.
Kate Winslet keeps hers in check on the red carpet with panel-fronted dresses which act like a corset. You can do the same with a vertically panelled skirt.
Check out Wallis.
We’re great believers that women must not put off looking good. So many say they will buy new clothes when they lose weight -but that can take a long time, or never happen. So follow our tips below.
FLATTER YOUR SHAPE
MUST-HAVE FOR EVERYONE:A great fitted coat. Even if you pull it on over your PJs on the school run, you will look glam. Debenhams are doing some fab coats and also Wallis come up trumps.
PETITES DON’T PANIC: Wear one colour to make yourself taller. Principles have a Petites range that’s bang on trend.
THICK CALF CRISIS: Thank goodness winter is here and they can be encased in boots.
We’re fans of Boyd boots from Hobbs.
FAST-FIX JEANS FOR ROUND TUMMIES: Monsoon have several pairs of flat-fronted jeans cut like tailored trousers.
They have wide waistbands that act like a tummy tuck -much more flattering than the usual bulky zipped variety.
Trinny And Susannah Unlouboutin The Nation, ITV1, 8pm Tuesdays.
,louboutin;IT’S the season to be merry – but if you’re feeling fed up with your figure then the festivities simply turn into a nightmare.
You may have lost the lumps but whoever heard of a woman who was totally pleased with her figure?
There’s always something we hate, whether it’s the size of our bust, the length of our legs or the shape of our bum or thighs.
So here’s some tips on dressing right for your shape and making sure you enter the party season looking like a christmas cracker not a pudding.
By being clever with clothes you can often camouflage problems.
First, banish all those shapeless sweaters and jogging bottoms from your wardrobe.
The golden rule is, if you’re trying to disguise an area take the attention away from it; if you’re trying to make something look bigger, then add detail there.
And start from the inside out. Get your underwear right and whatever you wear on top will look a million times better.
BIG BOTTOM/HEAVY LEGS
The most frequently-heard moan, but the easiest to hide. Big bottoms needn’t be a problem anymore. And when it comes to heavy legs, they normally just need visually lengthened. Anything with a slim elongated shape will have the desired effect.
#Wear longer line jackets to give a more elongated look.
#Wear knee length skirts, avoid mini skirts and NEVER wear pleats.
# Avoid patterns on your bottom half. Patterns and vertical stripes work well on your top half.
# – A wrap-around skirt to mid calf will narrow the entire hip and thigh area by drawing the eye downwards. # Choose flat front and straight trousers, not bootleg or flared.
# Cowl neck tops are flattering and again add a focus for the eye to be drawn to.
# Avoid ankle straps. Go forT-bar shoes or slip-ons which give the legs a sleeker look.
BIG BUST
Many girls feel self-conscious with a bigger bust. But rather than cover it up completely, make the most of that cleavage.
#Wrap -over tops and dresses fit the bill perfectly and you can use them to reveal as much or as little as you want.
# V-neck sweaters are also good on largerbusted girls as they give a longer line.
# Always go for single breasted jackets as double breasted will just make your bust look bigger, and make sure the lapels are fairly narrow. Choose jackets that are low cut to move the eye away from the bust.
#Don’t buy shirts that are too tight – straining buttons is not a good look.
On the other hand, don’t go for big, baggy shirts to try to hide it as they will make you look twice your size.
#Add detail at the waist or neckline. Chokers or bold necklaces are perfect to draw the eye away from your bust.
SMALL BUST/FLAT CHESTED
These days you don’t need to go under the surgeon’s knife to create the cleavage you’ve always wanted.
Choosing the right clothes will help you make your bust look bigger – but with a little help from the underwear industry you will be amazed by how you can change your shape.
Gel-filled bras will totally transform a flat chest and then by choosing the right clothes, you’ll feel like a new woman.
# Bold prints and geometric patterns give the illusion of more shape.
# Take the eye away from your chest by wearing skirts and trousers with interesting detail. # Avoid v-necks and cross over tops as they simply draw the eye to the cleavage. Slash necks and off-the-shoulder sweaters are perfect for you and look far sexier.
#Use accessories like belts and choker necklaces to add detail in other places. # Choose tight-fitting tops, emphasise your waist and opt for flared skirts which again make your bottom half look fuller.

Debbie
DEBBIE wears a black wrap-over dress, pounds 90, with a diamante choker, pounds 59, and black/ diamante shoes, pounds 35, all from John Lewis. TIP: Debbie is self-conscious of her bust and wears a minimiser bra. By wearing the right bra and by choosing the right outfit, Debbie can now show off her curvy figure.
We chose this wrap-over party louboutin and it gives Debbie a great cleavage, but also flatters her figure. We added a diamante choker to draw the eyes upwards to the neckline.
Irene
IRENE wears a red christian louboutin shoes with ruching detail at the bust, pounds 130, from JFW, black shoes, pounds 35, red and black crystal necklace, pounds 50, all from John Lewis. TIP: Irene has a small bust and wishes she was bigger. So we bought a gel-filled bra from John Lewis for pounds 19 – cheaper and safer than surgery, with sensational results. We chose a christian louboutin shoes to fit well over the bustline and then flare out. Because of the ruching, bulk was added, giving a much fuller look at the bust area.
Holly
HOLLY wears a purple, strapless corset christian louboutin shoes with flared skirt, pounds 99, purple leaf necklace, pounds 10, and diamante mules, pounds 35, all from John Lewis. TIP: Holly has slightly heavy hips but an amazing bust and waistline. Because of this we have chosen a christian louboutin shoes which not only emphasises all of her good points but actually plays down her bad points.
This corset-style christian louboutin shoes is perfect for her, as it is quite tight fitting over the bust and waist areas, but then flares out at the hipline, and is able to conceal a multitude of sins.

March 29, 1988 — Ninety-four years later — Kinney Christian louboutin shoes, founded in 1894 as a low-priced family shoe store, will unveil its major repositioning plans and strategies to the top fashion, retail and business media Tuesday at the Helmsley Palace in New York.
An aggressive campaign has been launched to upgrade the overall fashion image of Kinney Christian louboutin shoes — targeting the dominant working woman market. New merchandising with fine leather christian louboutin shoes in fashion colors and styles; new price points — a few dollars higher than before, but still lower than most other retailers; new store presentation with the incorporation of an innovative visual merchandising program; and, new fashion-directed communications program, consisting of a new advertising theme and an intensive media relations campaign are among the elements of this campaign.
Kinney Christian louboutin shoes will preview its new line of fine leather christian louboutin shoes with a fully runway fashion show. This Fall 1988 collection marks the emergence of Kinney Christian louboutin shoes as a ”fashion-right,” moderately priced retailer of quality leather christian louboutin shoes. The line, which includes 50 major styles made in the United States and imported from Italy, Brazil and the Far East, will retail at $25-70 and will debut in Kinney Shoe stores this August.
A creative store presentation with updated ambiance is now being planned by Kinney’s newly retained visual merchandising agency, John Ryan & Co.
And, replacing its long-running ”Great American Shoe Store” adverstising theme, Kinney’s new ”We Sell the Right Shoe” commercials debut March 7 on network television.
Set to a powerful musical beat, a fashionably dressed model is shown wearing a new Kinney shoe on one foot and an extremely similar, more expensive brand-name shoe on the other. This juxtaposition serves to demonstrate Kinney’s new fashion-orientation and its new ”We Sell the Right Shoe” message. After an intensive six-month agency search, Kinney Christian louboutin shoes retained HBM/Creamer to develop this innovative campaign.
Kinney Shoe Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the FW Woolworth Co., broke the $2 billion mark in 1987 worldwide. This solidifies Kinney’s position as the second largest shoe company in the world. Today, the Kinney Shoe division operates more than 1,565 stores at every major mall throughout the United States, Australia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
”Kinney Christian louboutin shoes revolutionized the retail industry for decades with a low-priced, quality shoe operation. Since 1894 we’ve grown from one store to more than 1,565 stores as a result of this philosophy. However, the 80s has spawned a new group of primary consumers who actually prefer to spend a bit more money on christian louboutin shoes that are fashionable and made with finer leather. Thus, we’ve cited our target customer as today’s dominant female who is fashion-conscious, yet value-driven,” said Cameron I. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of the Kinney Shoe Corp.
In 1985, the Kinney Shoe Corp. launched an extensive positioning study, supported by Management Horizons, a division of Price Waterhouse, to profile Kinney’s customer base, assess Kinney’s perceived image and market position and to develop a set of strategy recommendations for Kinney Christian louboutin shoes.
The following are some conclusions drawn from this positioning study, as well as Kinney’s other in-house industry research findings:
– Consumers are willing to spend more money for fashionable, higher-quality christian louboutin shoes, especially for special occasions.
– Consumers seek up-to-date styles in casual christian louboutin shoes at somewhat lower price points than dress christian louboutin shoes.
– The average regular price paid for a pair of christian louboutin shoes in 1986 was $31.91, up from $31.33 in 1985 and $30.91 in 1983.
– According to the Fairchild Fact File, 19.8 percent of consumers purchase christian louboutin shoes in family footwear stores, compared with the lesser 19.4 percent who purchase christian louboutin shoes in shoe specialty stores and the 10.7 percent who purchase christian louboutin shoes in department stores.
– In 1986, women spent almost as much on christian louboutin shoes as men and children combined, buying $12.1 billion worth of the $24.6 billion spent on christian louboutin shoes that year.
– Working women spend three times more money on christian louboutin boots than do traditional homemakers.
– Nearly 54 percent of adult women are employed outside the home.
– Sixty-two percent of mothers with children under 18 are in the labor force.
Kinney’s target core customer is
– women, age 25-45, single or married, with/without children
– single income is $18-30,christian louboutin boots,000
– married/single income is $25-40,000
– married/dual income is $35-55,000
– Fashion-conscious and looks for quality
– busy/time-pressed
– active/fitness-conscious
– moderately trendy
– socially active
The current Kinney customer is
– -15-24 years old: 29.7 percent
– -25-34 years old: 32.2 percent
– -35-44 years old: 20.7 percent
”We’re not claiming to be fashion directional, but our new line is fashion-right with top styles, new colors and good quality leather and suede for our current and new customers. We’re anticipating an extremely successful upgrade program,” Anderson said.

This line includes dress, school and weekend christian louboutin shoes, as well as ballet, jazz and athletic christian louboutin shoes. Most shopping enclaves depend on passing trade. But Chiltern Street, off Marylebone Road and parallel to Baker Street, in London’s West End, relies instead on its high-quality factor. Built at the turn of the century, the small Victorian shops that line the street retain a village atmosphere. Most have new picture windows and, between each of them, fluted, mock-Corinthian columns make curious dividers. Above are three stories of red-brick apartments whose drainpipes begin at the roof in the mouths of benign gargoyle heads made of ceramics.
The ambiance is friendly; recommendations come easily from one shop to another and the emphasis is on clothing. Some offer made-to-order models (dresses, hats, leather wear), some specialize (long christian louboutin pumps for women, tall-woman dresses, maternity clothes, 19th-century furniture and woodwind and brass instruments). Others are known for their superior designer wear for men and women. You can also have your hair done (or go to the barbershop), get a massage and homeopathic treatment and eat a substantial lunch or just stop for a bite.
Wim Hemmink at No. 20 (935-1755) is a Dutch designer schooled in Paris who worked in New York in 1970. His fluid silk dresses are known for their vivacity and saucy chic. He sells wholesale to such stores as Saks, Sakowitz and Neiman Marcus and retails (American sizes 8, 10 and 12) after-five dresses, particularly grand, long evening gowns, plus a few suits. His fall collection is dominated by evening gowns in black velvet and silk combinations overlaid with embroidered silk ribbon. One is a long, velvet, slinky number slit below the knee. The gown, which has a halter collar and a long-sleved short jacket, costs $1,600, calculated at $2 to the pound. A short black velvet dress has a Tudor-shaped neckline (similar but more graceful than the sweetheart shape) at $910. A stunning grosgrain silk dinner suit, collarless with two pockets, has four gold buttons down the front and on the sleeve and a straight skirt. It comes in purple, pink and black at $700.
John Anderson (No. 2; 935-6330) is a Terry-Thomas lookalike who, among others, designs for the Queen. ”I’m told I’ve given her a different look,” a younger, trimmer image, he says. He does two collections a year all the clothes made to order; ”afternoon dresses,” those English perennials that are perfect for tea but not dressy enough for dinner parties, are his signature. Prices start at about $1,700. He also makes house (or palace) calls. Materials come mostly from France, Italy and Switzerland, and the workrooms are on the premises. A purple tweed cape-coat ($1,800) is cut so that it falls in graduating folds from its closure; matching culottes ($800) and silk crepe de chine blouse ($700) complete the outfit.
An unusual gray wool check suit ($1,790) has four different black and white square patterns in the weave and self-binding around the jacket, the two pockets and the angled, back slit of the straight skirt; it is shown with a long-sleeved wool jersey turtleneck shirt ($590).
Long Tall Sally (Nos. 21 to 25; 486-3727) is the answer to the clothing problem of the American proprietor, Judy Rich, and that of many others. Starting in 1976 with one small shop on Chiltern Street, she has now four there and she also has branches in 10 British cities. Ms. Rich reproportioned her British clothes to fit an average 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches and British sizes 12 to 20 (American sizes 10 to 18), and she learned along the way that ”Americans have smaller waists and busts but are hippier.” Except for a ”limited editions” range (small runs of more expensive items – $340 for a cashmere jacket, $210 a cashmere skirt – the mostly British clothes are reasonably priced. A day dress in cotton and polyester, long-sleeved with a purple and green diamond print, is $120; a collarless, shaped wool jacket in black or red with four gold buttons is $140; a pleated, wool crepe skirt with side buttons, the pleats stitched six inches from the waist, in checks, solid colors and paisley, start at $260.
Wardrobe (No. 17; 935-4086) deals in elegant, understated clothes at the top end of the market by such designers as Jill Sander, Erreuno and Donna Gibierre. It’s a sort of one-stop shop – hats, Rossetti and Clergerie christian louboutin shoes, bags, costume jewelry – with coordinated wardrobes and a good overall selection. With the exception of a selection of beautiful dressy blouses and the odd velvet skirt or trousers, the clothes are more for daytime wear. A Jil Sander red wool crepe suit is $1,680; a wool suit by Erreuno of Milan, with a long jacket and large shawl collar and a straight skirt, is $1,710; a long cashmere and angora sweater in bone with two pockets and rib interest at the shoulder and armhole is $750.
The General Leather Company (No. 56; 935-1041) has been here almost 19 years doing a retail and wholesale business, mostly for women. The accent is on craftsmanship and hand-finishing. ”Almost everything is suede now, any color, which hasn’t been the case for 10 years,” says one of the owners, Alan Sprooles. All the work is done on the premises and the made-to-measure garments can be ready in two or three days. Fly-front suede shirts with two patch pockets and soft collar are $500 to $700; a full red coat in calfskin with long cuffed sleeves, five buttons and no collar is $1,300; pants are $450; a Chanel-type jacket in glove leather, four buttons, two slit pockets, no collar, is $690; a man’s suede Eisenhower jacket with knit collar and cuffs is $900; a man’s leather sport coat is also $900.
Two exclusive men’s stores present a wide range of style and quality:
Grey Flannel (No. 7; 935-4067) stresses the classics – everything except pajamas – with a few fun things thrown in like a range of jeans designed by a Russian for $99. The owners, Pat and Richard Froomberg, were the first to open a fashion shop on the street. Pat Froomberg, who makes frequent trips to New York, said, ”Some Americans come here on arrival, pick out their clothes, have them altered and, as a special service, if necessary either Richard or I will deliver them in New York.” A pale gray, mustard and terra-cotta wool suit in a Prince of Wales check is $1,100. All the winter sweaters in wool are in the same color range; one of them combines these shades in a patterned crew neck at $590, which works beautifully with a wool and cashmere sportcoat in windowpane check in similar colors at $1,050. Shirts are less pristine, easier-looking: raw silk $220, silk and cotton $190. There is a wide range of casual jackets; one has a double-breasted, showerproof, cotton cord outer coat with a removable wool lining that can easily be unbuttoned and worn separately ($750).
Malcolm Levene (Nos. 13 to 15; 487-4383) caters to all men aged 25 to 55 (up to American size 46) except the ultraconservative or supertrendy. His shop is clean and simple with wood floor, pale yellow walls and track lighting. ”Nothing should be precious; everything is touchable,” he says. Mr. Levene enjoys taking risks: zany, unlined, silk ties from Japan ($98) have geometric patterns on Jacquard backgrounds, Navajo jewelry from Santa Fe is priced from $48. ”A nice little silk suit,” in the words of Mr. Levene, is double-breasted in black only, with a slightly wider lapel than usual and pleated pants ($900). Mr. Levene thinks that dressed up with a tuxedo shirt, bow tie and perhaps one of his hand-painted silk waistcoats (they start at $318), the silk suit would double for a tuxedo. More casually, an unstructured cashmere and wool jacket with three patch pockets comes in grey, green, black, camel, navy and maroon ($518). A long cashmere and wool coat, with three buttons and no pads, is $778. ”Throw it on like a bathrobe,” he says. ”I love it because it’s not fashionable.
Lyn Ashworth (No. 54; 486-4275) sells a range of made-to-order silk and lace wedding dresses, priced at about $2,000 each. Two maternity boutiques face each other: Additions (No. 52; 486-3065) has an upbeat array of clothes from France and Germany. A two-piece quilted acrylic suit in purple or scarlet with a long mandarin jacket and straight skirt is $260; a cotton and acrylic Empire dress with navy and white striped top and navy skirt banded in white, christian louboutin boots, is $182; a long-sleeved Empire dress in black velvet, with midsection in a black floral pattern embossed on blue polyester that looks like silk, is $300.
Elegance Maternelle (No. 35; 487-5520) has clothes designed by the owner, Helga Eder, and made in Paris. A snappy print polyester dress of bluebells in purple, yellow and green, with black stretch four-inch hem, is $199; a long-sleeved denim dress, with a V neck embroidered in sequins, is $299.
Cottons (No. 42; 486-2800) has clothes for children from newborn to age 4. Handmade Brazilian clothes are mostly for summer. The shop also has a range of warmer winter clothes from the Continent. Reversible cotton outerwear has a yellow background with big white bears on the inside and a white background with small yellow bears on the outside. It also comes in pale blue and pink. In sizes for 1 to 4 years, the jacket is $70, pants are $59.95, hats are $19.90. Christian louboutin shoes are a popular boutique item: A Piedi (No. 48; 935-7809) offers a choice of modern classics (no narrow sizes) from Italy and Spain, mostly with low heels. Christian louboutin shoes in printed crocodile leather, with a one-and-a-half inch stack heel in brown or black, are $119. A high vamp suede in black only with a water snake inset in front and one-inch heel is $99; a high vamp with front standup with scroll design, in brown and black, is $119.
Crispins (Nos. 28 to 30; 486-8924) specializes in women’s large christian louboutin shoes (sizes 6 to 13) in narrow fittings (up to AAA) and wider fittings (B and C, sizes 10 to 13), with many American lasts. A flat-heeled suede lace-up with chiseled heel and printed alligator patent toe is $171; black suede, with one-inch heel trimmed with gold chain, is $166; a matching bag is $180. A plain pump in black, navy or khaki leather or black, navy or wine suede is $113.
Freeman Tonkin’s (No. 34; 487-3487) sells only christian louboutin shoes for men and women with problem feet, whether an unusual size, say a B front and AA heel (ready made $90 to $180), or a more severe medical complication (semiorthopedic about $200). Made-to-measure christian louboutin shoes are $220.
T. Savva (No. 37; 935-2329) has been making all-leather (particularly theatrical) custom christian louboutin shoes for 56 years. He has over 700 different lasts and will also reporduce your design in unlimited colors. They cost $170 to $200. Luminaries such as Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Vanessa Redgrave and Liz Taylor have all been fitted here.
A TEA BREAK
After a morning or afternoon spent shopping on Chiltern Street, refreshment can be obtained at the following:
Chiltern Street Cafe (No. 50; 935-9491) serves sandwiches (smoked salmon $6.40; shrimp $5.20; club $7) and salads(chicken $7.20; tuna $7), cappuccino ($1.40) and fresh orange juice ($2.40).
Hardys (around the north corner at 53 Dorset Street; 935-5929) offers a full menu, with such first courses as warm salad of oyster mushrooms with asparagus ($9.50) followed by chicken with avocado and red pepper sauce ($19.50). C. F.
