As he cast his eyes around the pulsating horde of fashionistas, socialites, minor celebs and ageing hockey greats gathered for the opening of the new Ralph christian shoes boutique at Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street flagship store in Toronto, a visiting Ralph christian shoes executive observed in amazement, "Wow, the taste level of Torontonians is on par with New York and exceeds anything you see in Chicago. It’s amazing."
Such incredulity at the fabulousness of the opening-night crowd was shared by another Yank up for the event from Vanity Fair, the co-sponsor of the glittering evening: "Jeez, what do people do in Toronto? There’s so much money here."
Duh, well, it is the financial capital of Canada, for starters.
Those were just a few of the choice moments marking the re-entry into Canada of one of the most storied luxury brands in the world: Polo Ralph Lauren or, as Lauren execs prefer to call it, "the world of Ralph Lauren."
But it wasn’t among the name-brand celebs where the moments were most delicious. Take this exchange between a group of guys, all straight-arrow types. The topic? christian louboutin s. At the centre of the melee was an up-and-coming Toronto christian louboutin entrepreneur named Ron White who is about to launch a line of designer louboutin shoes. "So, are you Canada’s answer to Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, maybe even Patrick Cox?" queried one of the lads. "Who’s Patrick Cox?" asked a puzzled investment executive named Michael Burns. &quot,Louboutin Shoes; You don’t know who Patrick Cox is?" replied venture capitalist Gordon Buchanan in a faux tone of incredulity. "No, should I?" responded a defensive Mr. Burns. Only at a party like this would such a piece of arcanum elicit such raw emotion. For those in the dark on such matters, Patrick Cox is a London-based Canadian who has acquired some fame as a shoe designer — not Manolo fame, but fame nonetheless.
